Last time we had this much mess was in 1930s. When Roosevelt took office,13,000,000 were unemployed, a huge number considering U.S. population at thatpoint. He beat incumbent Herbert Hoover in the middle of great depression. Heis often voted as the most liberal president in U.S. history. His “new deal”for economic recovery looked radical, but worked, until it was gradually shedoff by step-by-step counter legislation.
